Maptech iPlot - Real Time Chart Plotting App

The Maptech iPlot application offers a straightforward chart plotter experience, leveraging many of the routing features present in Maptech's digital software. It utilizes the familiar NOAA nautical charts found in other Maptech programs like Offshore Navigator, Chart Navigator Pro, Sea Ray Navigator, and i3 Navigator. Users can easily plan routes, drop markers, and smoothly zoom and scale charts using intuitive touchscreen gestures. The app boasts a quick and seamless chart quilting engine for effortless transitions between charts, with the added benefit of operating offline once downloaded.

The initial purchase of the Maptech iPlot App provides access to all US small scale planning charts, downloadable from within the app. For precise navigation capabilities, users will need to procure specific chart regions tailored to their area of interest at an additional cost of $9.99 each. These charts receive yearly updates every January and do not require a subscription fee or expire.

If your iPad supports cellular data connections, it likely includes a built-in GPS rendering additional GPS devices unnecessary for navigating with the iPlot app. You can easily verify this by checking for cell signal bars in the top display bar; their presence indicates a built-in GPS. Otherwise, if your iPad lacks GPS functionality, enabling location services and Wi-Fi coverage becomes essential to determine your location using the iPlot app. However, in rural areas devoid of location service coverage, tracking may be compromised. For reliable real-time navigation using Maptech iPlot without a built-in GPS, it is advisable to invest in an external plug-in or Bluetooth GPS device such as those offered by Bad Elf. The option of Snow Lizard Products iPad cases with integrated Bad Elf GPS receivers is also recommended.
